Do you love seafood such as King Crab? Are you fond of Japanese confectionary and cakes? Do you enjoy snow activities?
If you’ve answered yes to the above 3 questions, it is highly likely that you are a fan of Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island famous for its scenic charms. And if you don’t have any plans to journey there anytime soon, fret not, as Resorts World Sentosa is holding a 10-day Hokkaido Fest from now till 27 Nov’16.
Here are some of our top picks on what you cannot miss at Hello Hokkaido:
#1 — Yatai Stalls
Over 20 food and retail stalls featuring the best of Hokkaido’s food and desserts have set up booths at Basement 1 of The Forum. Ramen lovers will be happy to note that aside from the ever popular Santouka, there is also Ninjamen who hails from Sapporo.
Those looking to try seafood can stop at Esashi, a stall bringing in King Crab, Hairy Crab and Snow Crab, all caught in the Sea of Okhotsk . You can have the chef prepare it on the spot so everything is as fresh as it can get.
Other yummy treats include soup curry, melon soft cream and creamy croquette.
#2 — Handmade Crafts
Aside from delicious food, the event features stalls showcasing and selling handmade rice bowls and teacups, as well as wooden crafts carved by hand. Because of the delicate work that go into crafting these items and the intricate designs produced, they are limited in quantity and slightly more pricey but definitely worth every dollar you spend on them.
#3 — Unique skincare & health products
Known for its abundant natural resources, Hokkaido is home to small cosmetics and healthcare brands who put extraordinary amounts of care into their products. Sucremor, a sugar-based skin care brand, makes use of natural sugars in beets native to Hokkaido to provide excellent moisturizing for all skin types. Lavender perfume, horse oil shampoo and conditioners, as well as wholesome oats are available too.
#4 — Sake Bar
A dedicated sake counter featuring a range of nihonshu originating from Japan is definitely not to be missed. Our favourites are the Chitosezuru Yuki no Tenshitachi made by Hokkaido University students, which comes in a bottle resembling a pretty Christmas ornament, and the Chitosezuru Mini Komodaru sake, which is stored in a miniature sake cask.
#5 — Performances by popular Japanese artistes
A series of performances by Milcs Honmono, Sapporo’s official idol girl group and Ayano Mashiro, a female pop singer whose recent single topped the iTunes anime chart, were held over the past three days.
From today, you will be able to catch Niya in his dazzling shamisen sessions and also take part in cooking workshops held by ABC Cooking Studio.
Bonus — Attractive holiday deals
What better way to experience Hokkaido than by flying there? H.I.S Travel, JTB and New Shan Travels are just a few of the agencies that will be there to share their expertise and provide some of the best travel deals to the region, so be there or be square!
