群馬の観光PRイベントレポ@JAPAN RAIL CAFE
Gunma Prefecture promotional event @ JAPAN RAIL CAFE

A big shout out to those of you who stopped by at JAPAN RAIL CAFE last month during Gunma Time and Gunma Night!!

The week long campaign to promote Japan’s onsen paradise Gunma Prefecture (群馬県) culminated with a special two-day event. On 26th and 27th December, participants attended a short introductory session as well as crafts workshops and a lucky draw~

Only an hour away from Tokyo by the shinkansen, Gunma is home to some of the country’s most well-known hot springs! It is also the top producer of the springy and low-calorie konnyaku (蒟蒻, konjac).

Yep, it’s just like what you see on Japan Hour!

Participants had fun painting their own daruma (達磨), a traditional handmade Japanese wishing doll, said to bring good luck. Gunma Prefecture is the leading producer of these vibrantly coloured charms, which can be bought as souvenirs when you visit!

An exciting Japanese-style lucky draw with plenty of wonderful prizes including hotel vouchers for Hotel Metropolitan Takasaki were up for grabs too!

There was also sampling of local delicacies such as the Mizubasho Pure Sparkling Sake which is served on board Singapore Airlines Business and First Class.

Visitors also walked home with trial kits of Gunma’s natural cosmetic range megumi to nagomi, which contains konnyaku and yuzu extracts which keep skin moisturised all day.

A fun-filled day to remember!

Starting this year, Gunma Prefecture and JR East will also be hosting more events and kick starting campaigns to promote SL train travel to Singaporean tourists. SL, or steam locomotives, are a great way to sight see while travelling. The trains travel at a slower speed and you can enjoy the outdoor scenery while lavishing in the plush interiors of a bygone age. Be sure to hop on an SL train when you visit Gunma~

Catch more events happening at Singapore’s dedicated platform to promote various regions of Japan. You can also purchase JR passes and lots of cool limited edition merchandise here too!
