IPPUDO, voted Singapore’s best-loved ramen by WAttention SG’s readers in 2016, is on a roll.
The award-winning ramen brand is unveiling its ninth outlet in Marina Bay Sands (MBS) on 13 Jan’17 (Friday). Aside from their regular menu, new side dishes that are exclusive to the MBS outlet will be available.
The first quick service/takeaway concept by IPPUDO in Asia will also be launching at the same time — KURO-OBI Singapore will serve Japanese ie kei (家系, house-style) ramen that originated from Yokohama City in 1974, but with a twist.
Instead of the traditional pork soup base, the store features 100% chicken broth (鶏白湯, tori paitan) and slow-cooked chicken chashu. Regular diners at IPPUDO will also notice that the noodles at KURO-OBI are thicker and heartier, which is a signature of ie kei-style.
Customers are also free to customise the texture of the noodles, concentration of soup and amount of condiments (chopped garlic and onion). To achieve the unique mochi-mochi (もちもち, chewy) texture of the noodles, tapioca flour is used so that the end product retains more moisture.
The KURO-OBI (S$12) comes with 3 slices of soft, tasty chicken chashu, an umami egg and nori, which makes for a quick but satisfying lunch. Other mainstays include the AKA-OBI (S$10), topped with spicy shrimp floss for those who prefer their ramen with a kick. There is also a lighter option for those watching their diet — The CHA-OBI (S$9) is served with clear vegetable broth and a variety of veggie toppings.
The newly launched side dishes are another reason to pay the MBS outlet a visit as well. My personal favourite is the addictive Hakata-style bite-size Gyoza (S$9 for 5 pieces, S$16 for 10 pieces).
The best-selling Pork Bun (S$5) has a tantalising slab of chashu sandwiched in a soft bun and is a must-try!
If you don’t mind spending, try the special Lemon Soda (S$8), a refreshing fizzy beverage made with fresh lemons and mint leaves.
End your meal on a sweet note with IPPUDO’s exclusive desserts. The Almond Jelly Noodle (S$6) features tsuru-tsuru (ツルツル, smooth) jelly made into thin noodles with almond milk and is worth a try.
