As most of us know by now, Singaporeans love Ramen and here at WAttention, we especially adore this favourite Japanese dish!

We head to Machida Shoten Singapore which recently launched its brand-new menu, tweaked to cater to local palates while keeping the essence of iekei (家系, homestyle or family-style) ramen.

Coming from the Kanagawa Prefecture, the restaurant is well-known for its iekei ramen which comprises a blend of Shoyu Tonkotsu and chicken broth.

When translated, “iekei” means “homestyle” or “family-style” in Japanese and the restaurant hopes to evoke a warm and homely feeling with its ramen.

To enjoy the iekei ramen to its fullest, follow these three steps: choose the texture of your noodles (hard, medium or soft), the quantity of chicken oil (rich, regular or less) and the intensity of the broth flavour (strong, regular and light).

The new menu starts from S$9.80 and offers four soup broths to enjoy: Tonkotsu Shoyu; Tonkotsu Shio; Tonkotsu Miso and Spicy Miso.

You can get to choose from three sizes (Regular, Basic and Special) for each ramen as well as the toppings (Nori, Chashu, spinach, Tamago, butter, corn and many more).

Dubbed as the restaurant’s signature ramen, the Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen is one not to be missed. The strong savoury aroma from the ramen makes you want to slurp up all the noodles immediately!

Every bite makes you crave for more as the springy noodles soak up the flavours of broth. So be sure not to waste a single drop of the broth for the iekei ramen which brings out the rich essence of the chicken and pork-based tonkotsu and shoyu!

For lunch, the restaurant has also rolled out new lunch set choices on weekdays from 11am to 3pm. Choose your desired ramen and pair it with different choices (which costs from S$3 onwards): gyoza; fried rice; mini salad and rice; or gyoza and fried rice.

What’s more, from now till 1 Aug’18, ladies who bring along a friend will be able to enjoy one-for-one ramen or free dessert and drinks for every ramen on Wednesdays!
